Firm Profile

Like Frederick Law Olmsted, I believe that public space is a great democratizer. It provides the common ground that brings us together; it restores and delights our spirits. Public and open space defines the character of our communities and, when designed well, holds the power to change us for the better individually and collectively.

With over 20 years of experience in landscape design and planning, I specialize in analyzing landscape dynamics, particularly historic landscapes in the context of contemporary use. I am known for lively facilitation and creative processes that clarify direction about land use, preservation and development.

I have a gift for listening to what people say, while at the same time challenging their thinking and bringing my professional insights to the table. I work responsively with the public and with institutional leaders to gain a deeper and broader understanding of the issues, to invite the right degree of participation, and to translate stakeholder needs into practical plans that enjoy broad support.

My practice is designed to integrate the three areas I care about most:

  • revitalizing places of historic, social
    and cultural meaning,
  • giving voice to the people and organizations
    who care for them, and
  • strengthening their ability to work together

I am continuing and expanding my commitment to these areas through the following services:

Landscape Planning and Historic Preservation
Community Planning and Visioning
Organizational Development
